Everything is hand-sewn and tied to achieve natural loops, curves and handmade crease in the middle. Elastics are guaranteed soft and comfortable and each alligator clip is fully lined with fabric and with non-slip foam. Prinsessefin uses non-toxic glue and ribbons are also professionally heat-sealed to avoid fraying.
The company aims to deliver products that will not harm children’s sensitive skin. As Kjersti says “only the highest quality products for our little love ones.”
Concept
Prinsessefin is a Norwegian-based company producing a variety of hand-sewn hair ornaments for babies and children.
The design is described as classic, minimalistic and adaptive.
Its classic design was inspired by the universal art of decorative binding and tying fabrics to serve as an ornament. From that basis, new product styles have been created by adding embellishments, matching colors and integrating new patterns. It`s classic design is also noticeable in the color selections for each collections.
Norwegians is known for its minimalistic approach including in fashion. The simple the better. The minimalism in Prinsessefin products is remarkable by its colors, prints and patterns. Unlike other children hair accessories, Prinsessefin uses the natural beauty of the textile and creative handcrafting instead of plastic, prints and objects as decoration. Off white, navy, icy pink and carmandy for instance are mute and calm colors which are unique to Norwegian minimalism.
In addition, Prinsessefin also believes that a design should be adaptive especially to skin and hair colors, fashion trends, seasons and cultures. Bold and colorful assortments are also available out of 50 and growing number of models and with almost 196 colors to choose from. This makes Prinsessefin hair accessories a versatile accessory line that is chic, timeless and will be used by children for many years to come with every outfit and for every occasion.
Prinsessefin uses high quality metal alligator clip. This is wrapped with Confidence in Textile using non-toxic glue and uses a non-slip pad to make sure that all clips have tighter clasp against falling, thus making it perfect for babies’ fine hair.
From then, Prinsessefin continued to grow and add new products and collections such as baby headbands, pony tails, hair ties, and bows for boys and pacifier holders. The company is continuously expanding its collections to reach and spread the magic of Prinsessefin to all prince and princesses around the world.
History
“From humble beginnings come great things.”
Kjersti started making hair accessories for her daughter Cornelia back in 2007.
She collected metal hair pins usually used by her mom, who was a former hairdresser, to fix Cornelia’s hair. From bare metal pins, she transformed them into lovely hair ornaments such as bows, rosettes and flowers in different styles, colors and fabrics.
However, due to silky and thin blonde hair of Cornelia, clips tend to fall. Kjersti then decided to modify the hair ornaments by adding non-slip pads making it stay even on a thinnest hair strand.
As a mother, Kjersti wanted to have the best quality products for her daughter. This is why she strived to produce hair ornaments with quality apart from design and style. All clips used were nickel-free and all fabrics were OEKO-Tex certified. This means that the fabrics were certified and tested for harmful substances from all stages of production.
“I love making my daughter feel good and beautiful.”
Cornelia captured the attention of the people around her. Her hair ornaments complemented her natural charm that made her look even lovelier. One day, a vendor got curious and asked them where they bought the accessory on Cornelia’s hair. Upon knowing that the accessory was handmade by Kjersti, the vendor requested her to make some hair ornaments and sell them in their store and the rest is history.
After (period of time), the products were overwhelmingly appreciated by her customers making the demand for the products grew higher. In 2009, she officially established Prinsessefin with headquarters in Trondheim, Norway.
The company name “Prinsessefin” derived from the words “Prinsesse” which means princess and “Fin” which in this context means beautiful.
Today, Prinsessefin hair accessories can be bought in different babies and children shops not only in Norway but also in whole Scandinavia, Europe and Middle East.
From these breakthroughs, the company is hoping to continue reach its goals especially its hope to spread the magic of Prinsessefin to all princesses around the world.
